The Future of Chinese Ministries: Reaching the Unreached with the Gospel
It’s been nearly eight decades since John Broger landed in Shanghai, with the bold vision to broadcast the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a total population of about 450 million people. Not only has China’s population grown about three-fold; it has also experienced huge demographic shifts due to unparalleled economic, social and technological changes. Along with these, God’s word has moved through China in a mighty way, resulting in tens of millions of believers. Many of FEBCanada’s current and former employees and supporters have experienced the impact firsthand, giving them unique perspectives on the condition of the church today, and the strategic role our Chinese brothers and sisters have to play in advancing the gospel in China and beyond.
There is still much work to be done in China. While most areas have been reached by the gospel, there remain many remote communities where the Good News of Jesus has never reached yet. It is essential that sound theological discipleship training and practical rules for daily living will continue to equip our brothers and sisters. For now, shortwave radio remains an integral part of reaching the billion-plus people, but it will increasingly be complemented or even supplanted by new technologies which allow us to advance the Gospel at an unprecedented pace.
And not to be ignored, there are an estimated 70 million Chinese people that live outside of China, presenting opportunities to reach them in other countries as well. Among these are also brothers and sisters who are heeding the call to bring God’s love to other cultures. The potential to equip them with evangelism and cross-cultural training is promising.
FEBCanada’s Chinese Ministry is one part of the body that is working with our brothers and sisters in China. By using effective media technologies, applying sound stewardship, utilizing experience, and most importantly, by listening carefully to God’s Holy Spirit, we believe that the Lord will continue to do mighty things to and through the people of China!

Give thanks to the Lord for placing a bold, Spirit-led vision in the hearts of Robert Bowman, John Broger, and William Roberts—to reach the lost in Asia with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through radio. Pray that this same boldness would ignite hearts today.
Praise God for opening the doors in the Philippines when the way was closed in China. Thank Him for His perfect timing and provision, which allowed the Gospel to continue going forth—reaching those in spiritual darkness with the light of Christ.
Ask the Lord to anoint every broadcast going into China and beyond. Pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare hearts, break down barriers, and draw many to repentance and salvation through the name of Jesus Christ.
