As FEBC’s Regional Coordinator for Southeast Asia, Jonathan Mortiz is responsible for coordinating, planning, and strategizing in the region – primarily focusing on the Ethnic Ministry in Thailand; as well as Malaysia, and other emerging fields.

As the guest speaker on FEBCanada’s Prairies East Friendship Tour – which begins in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on March 11, and concludes in Regina on the 27th – Jonathan will be sharing about his involvement in this part of Asia’s world.

Due to his demanding overseas responsibilities, Jonathan will be seen on video at each event … and when and where practical, he will connect with audiences “live” by phone.

In 1987, Jonathan was hired as an announcer at radio station DZAS – the ministry’s domestic AM station in Manila, Philippines.  In 1992, he married Noralynn; and in 1993 the couple moved to the island of Saipan with their infant son, Zak … and where their daughter Keziah, was born.

During his two years of ministry in Saipan, Jonathan served as the Filipino program director and announcer at FEBC International’s shortwave radio station.  (The Saipan station was decommissioned in 2011, after 27 years of broadcasting.)

In 1995, the family returned to Manila – where Jonathan became the manager of Papuri (the Filipino ministry’s musical Gospel outreach), while he continued to be a broadcaster on DZAS. 

Since his early childhood, Jonathan’s life has revolved around ministry and music – his father was an evangelist, and the entire family would travel with him and sing at evangelistic meetings, crusades, and in churches.

The Mortiz family relocated to Southern California in 1997 – when Jonathan became the ministry’s liaison to Filipino Americans living in the United States.  The same year marked the arrival of another daughter, Keren.

Jonathan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies at Bethel Bible College in the Philippines; and obtained a master’s degree in organizational leadership at Biola University in La Mirada, California.

Jonathan describes his life as being centred around three core values: God, Family, and God’s mission.
