The Khmu tribespeople were traditionally slaves, mostly illiterate, with no written language, and the majority reside in Laos and its neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia. FEBC International inaugurated the Khmu-language radio broadcasts in 1987, when Sionh Chan was recruited as Khmu-language radio program producer. In the 1980s, there were an estimated 6,000 Khmu Christians; today, there are over 70,000 known believers – thanks, to a large extent, to the shortwave radio broadcasts. In recent years, new media platforms, phone apps, and other content delivery systems are used to expand the Gospel radio outreach.
